Takuya “Ty” Oka
Ty started his career early as an IT/management consultant working for one of the most prestigious consulting firms in the world. He experienced and managed a variety of projects from large scale ERP implementation to new employee training design & management, to facilitating international mergers & acquisitions. Through these projects he built his expertise in learning development and management, training, coaching, change management, and communication strategy.
Ty and I met through common friends while we both were on temporary assignments in Dallas, TX. Both having large firm IT consulting backgrounds, we had much to talk about and quickly became good friends sharing “war stories” and other mutual interests. In 2012 Ty started his MBA with an emphasis in accounting. He needed to do a summer internship and wanted exposure to career options as a CPA. After some discussion I invited him to shadow me over the summer to see what it was like to be active with the AICPA and also to get exposure to the type of work that I did a CPA specializing in information technology (IT). He shared his experience through a series of blog posts that we have titled “Life as a CPA“.
